Map Data Offers Truth: Atlanta’s Racial Politics

Atlanta’s Mayor’s Race between  Keisha Lance Bottoms and Mary Norwood (In photo: Bottoms left, Norwood right), was a victim of poor voter turnout, but it was also divided along racial and economic lines. This map created by WABE shows the divisions.  Compare the election map to a map of Atlanta’s areas by ethnicity. The December 5, 2017 runoff between Keisha Lance Bottoms and Mary Norwood showed Bottoms winning by 50.41 percent, to Norwood’s 49.59 percent; which amounts to less the 800 votes. Norwood is requesting a recount, as well as claiming voter intimidation.
